PIPSICKLE: Low dose aspirin for preventing intrauterine growth restriction and preeclampsia in sickle cell pregnancy.
This is a multi-site, randomised, controlled, double blind trial comparing a daily dose of 100mg aspirin with placebo, from 12-16 weeks gestation until 36 weeks.
The study sites will be two teaching hospitals and thirteen general hospitals (15 study sites) within Lagos state, with the coordinating centre at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL), Idi-Araba, Lagos. A total of 476 eligible pregnant women with sickle cell disease will be recruited consecutively and randomly assigned to groups using computer generated random numbers (www.sealedenvelopes.com).
